US ITER Lead Engineer

- Work with Team Lead, Project Engineers, QA, and Procurement within US ITER to develop technical specifications, statements of work and drawing packages detailing the requirements for Port Integration to establish external standards for suppliers and vendors.
- Continuously develop education of similar Port Integrators and Diagnostics and serve as Technical Expert of Equatorial Ports 3 and 9 for the US team.
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct important projects or a number of lesser projects with many complex features.
- Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- Develop and evaluate plans and criteria with Project Engineers for projects and activities to be carried out by others.
- Execute mechanical design and analysis.
- Carry out the process of designing, documenting, and reviewing engineering design and calculations.
- Coordinate and execute collaborative team meetings with domestic and foreign diagnostic counterparts to report status and develop actions to push joint progress.
- Lead technical review of final design documents and drawings including Process Flow Diagrams, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Technical Specifications, analysis and calculations
- Prepare and give presentations for meetings of technical scope and progress.
- Determine applicability and appropriateness of requirements and internal controls.
- Support Control Accounts Manager in preparation of cost and schedule estimates and provide project progress monthly.
- Reprioritize activities within the scope of work being managed.
- Assist Control Accounts Manager prepare Project Execution Plans and manage work to that Plan, including cost and schedule with support of Project Engineers.
- Work with Team Lead to supervise the project engineers and technicians who assist them, estimate personnel needs, and schedule and assign work to meet completion deadlines on assigned projects.
- Prepare documentation (installation procedures, analysis reports, calculations, system description documents, design reviews).
- Manage configuration control activities during design and fabrication phases
- Supervise the process of the drawings by overseeing the preparation, approval, and release of drawings for manufacturing.
- Oversee and/or supervise the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of designed components.
- Evaluate fabrication deviation requests and non-conformances from industrial suppliers
- Specify US ITER intervention points (hold points, witness points, customer inspections) during fabrication and participate/oversee these activities.
- Foreign and domestic travel to sponsor (IO), fabricators, and support subcontractors facilities is required.
- BS in Engineering (Mechanical preferred but will consider other related degrees).
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant technical and project management experience demonstrating understanding of design, analysis, and manufacturing of complex structures and integrated systems.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve project goals, utilize project management tools to support execution of project scope, interface effectively with management, and interface effectively with vendors and fabricators.
- Perform and make decisions independently with limited supervisory assistance.
- Familiarity with 3D modelling/CAD and development/review of fabrication drawings.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of researchers, engineers, and technicians; domestic and international.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- MS in Engineering (Mechanical preferred but will consider other related degrees).
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant technical and project management experience demonstrating comprehensive understanding of design and manufacturing of diagnostics, optics, RF, microwave and vacuum components for large-scale science or nuclear facilities
- Experienced with high tolerance machining techniques.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including precision machining.
- Experience with metrology and tolerance studies
- Familiarity with DOE procurement guidelines, preferably 413.3B projects.
- Familiarity with U.S. and international design codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in the commercial nuclear industry.
- Experience working in an international environment.

- Components in high vacuum environments
- P roficiency with ASME Y14.5, GD&T
