- Provide scientific support and expertise for radionuclide operations;
- Undertake research to evaluate the performance and advance the capabilities of the PTS to monitor radionuclide particulates and noble gas in the atmosphere;
- Define, coordinate and execute projects for design and development of new software and/or major enhancements to existing radionuclide data processing software;
- Collaborate in intra-divisional projects to improve the analysis of the radionuclide data acquired by the PTS;
- Research, analyse and recommend the procurement of new software to improve and maintain the IDC radionuclide processing capabilities;
- Provide guidance and training in the area of radionuclide expertise to team members within the PTS and trainees assigned to the IDC;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Advanced university degree in nuclear science, preferably in gamma spectroscopy and radiation detection methods, computer science (with emphasis on scientific software development), or a related field.
- At least seven years relevant working experience in the field of radioactive decay processes, gamma-ray spectrometry analysis and/or noble gas beta-gamma coincidence analysis;
- Understanding of major concepts and algorithms of determination of characteristic parameters for radioactivity measurements is essential;
- Experience with Monte Carlo based simulation approaches is desirable;
- Recent experience in scientific software development and integration in UNIX/Linux environment;
- Experience with Python and C programming languages, as well as with Linux/Unix operating systems and PostgreSQL and/or Oracle databases is required;
- Experience in project management applying agile software development methods, preferably Scrum, is desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
- Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.
