What You Will Do

As part of Guidehouse’s Cybersecurity Open Source Solutions’ Team, we are seeking applicants with one to three years of experience in employing data science and open source intelligence (OSINT) tools to understand, research, identify, collect (accessing or interrogating), investigate, and analyze data sources and other publicly available information (PAI) and summarize key findings in written reports, oral briefings, and visualization-rich formats (presentations or dashboards) to support a variety of government and commercial clients.

  • Candidates must be tech savvy and have experience in at least several of the following areas: OSINT and traditional and social media tools, data analytics, visualizations, and building tools for integrating multiple data sets.
  • Candidates must have experience in at least several of the following disciplines: intelligence collection or analysis, investigations, network analysis, due diligence, supply chain risk, regulatory violations, financial analysis, threat network analysis, cyber threat intelligence, cybersecurity, traditional and social media analysis, link analysis, mapping, and/or geospatial analysis, and be able to apply these disciplines to our clients’ needs.


Deliver open source intelligence (OSINT) research, analysis, and intelligence, including using technology such as coding (e.g., R, Python), natural language processing (NLP), automation (e.g., bots/RPA), machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), and various tools and sources (e.g., analytics, mapping, link analysis, subscription-based APIs and GUIs, statistical analysis, geolocational, non-attribution, dark web) to deliver solutions, including through sophisticated visualization (e.g., Shiny, Tableau, Power BI) to our government and commercial clients.
  • Integrity: Research, collect, and use established data science and robust, verifiable, vetted, systematic, and methodological analytical processes with utmost integrity to rapidly parse through information and big data to identify data-driven insights and other analytical findings.
    • Notwithstanding an emphasis on the technological aspects of this work, it is equally critical to be able to provide context, texture, framing, strategic and tactical color, as well as operational and practical realities, and to present the work as a story and in multiple types of effective presentation formats.
  • Client Delivery: Ability to identify and develop solutions to meet client needs, and to build solid relationships and become a trusted advisor to clients.
    • Maintains awareness of client environment, culture, challenges, and areas for improvement, as well as the external environmental related to legislation, regulations, policies, and news and other external drivers that may impact the client

    • Core Consulting Skills: Ability to structure and develop high-quality client deliverables while demonstrating critical thinking, analytic depth, and to leverage and tailor various industry methodologies and frameworks to the needs of clients

    • Constantly thinks in terms of how to use technology/tools and data to solve problems, to be innovative, and to be effective and efficient – while also being able to work with SMEs/others who do not necessarily have that same mindset.
    • Actively participate in designing and building new methodologies, tools, technologies, and solutions for ambiguous and hard-to-define problem sets that require multidisciplinary thinking, technical development, and creative solutioning while also completing top-notch analysis as an OSINT and functional SME.
  • Experience: Experience in traditional and social media monitoring and analysis, investigations, commercial due diligence, supply chain risks, regulatory violations, financial analysis, threat network analysis, cybersecurity, cyber threat intelligence, or adjacent topics is required.
  • Data Collection: Identify and leverage open source/PAI, commercial, and proprietary data sources, including well-established, well-known, and highly effective sources, as well as finding and creating new, unique, hard-to-get, and innovative data sets.
    • Lead the development of data collection strategies and, as appropriate, help access or ingest such data sets given various parameters, such as data provenance, budgets, legal requirements, and timelines.
    • Employ research techniques to identify, collect, monitor, tag, and update specified topics and technologies identified by the US Government or top commercial firms, as well as to develop ontologies and taxonomies to conduct complex queries.
    • Translate complex technology topics and capabilities into plain language is necessary
  • Data Analysis: The ability to research, think analytically, and identify and connect disparate data to identify risks, patterns, trends, anomalies, and recommend mitigations is a must
    • Apply a methodical and logical approach to analyze diverse data using a variety of experiences, expertise, skills, tools, and technologies, including NLP, machine learning tools, and statistical analysis is necessary.
    • Experiment with new tools, technologies, and technical approaches – including programming languages to perform sophisticated quantitative and qualitative analysis and visualization – while simultaneously being an outstanding analyst even without tools and technology.
  • Presentation: It is required to be able to translate analytic findings into actionable outcomes for our clients, and to communicate complex concepts with clarity for a wide range of client requirements and complex problem sets.
    • Lead the shaping and development of reports, briefings, visual presentations, computer files, and other deliverables that place quantitative and qualitative findings in strategic context and provide data-driven analytic recommendations based on insight, direction, and guidance.
  • Effective and Efficient Work Processes: The successful candidate must be able to provide high-quality work on-time and on-budget every time, being judicious in project and work set-up, execution, completion, and any follow-up as warranted.
    • Contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, individually or as a team, and handle a flexible work style and schedule to meet client demands.
    • Prioritize and coordinate multiple work products across multiple workstreams
  • Communication: We are seeking someone who can communicate well in-person and in writing, and present to all levels of clients and internal staff.
    • Craft compelling communications for our clients, future business prospects, and internally, and be able to think in and create visualizations that powerfully describe or assist in visually communicating the work, results, courses of action, and our recommendations.
  • Collaboration: The successful candidate will drive collaboration internally and work smoothly and strongly as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Business Development: The applicant will lead and develop business opportunities and client relationships.
    • Participate in the coordination and composition of business development requirements, including crafting responses to requests for information and proposals, identifying and organizing past performance qualifications, undertaking level of effort and pricing estimates, coordinating personnel and resume requirements, and participating in general BD opportunity shaping activities.

What You Will Need

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain a minimum of USG Secret security clearance
  • Willingness to step into unfamiliar situations with a mindset to learn and gain experience and to work on projects in large or small organizations and in either the public or private sectors
  • Bachelor’s degree (from an accredited 4-year college/university)
  • Flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks, and comfort with ambiguity and unstructured situations
  • Strong communication, including verbal, written, and presentation skills, and the ability to write requirements and tell user stories employing best industry practices
  • At least one year of relevant experience conducting open source/OSINT research, collection/intelligence gathering, analysis, traditional/social media monitoring, or investigations, and working as a data scientist/analyst.
  • At least one year using commercial or government OSINT tools, experience in building news tools/technical capabilities, and hands-on experience in analyzing large data sets.
  • Strong proficiency/technical skills related to data analysis using programming languages (e.g., R, Python), data visualization (e.g., Shiny, Tableau, Power BI), and database exploitation (e.g., SQL, Excel).
  • Experience using technologies/tools related to traditional media and social media monitoring (e.g., Meltwater, Cision, Crimson Hexagon, Factiva, Critical Mention, Storyful, WordPress).
  • Expertise in employing OSINT tools (e.g., Maltego, Babel Street, GeoSpark, Dataminr, Sayari, ArcGIS, i2 Analyst’s Notebook, Chainalysis).
  • Skills using business intelligence tools (e.g., Lexis Nexis, Dun & Bradstreet, Dow Jones, Bloomberg, Credit Risk Monitor).
  • Experience building and leveraging business resources and processes to accomplish complex tasks, such as developing new tools, pipelines, and methodologies.
  • Innate curiosity that drives an interest in how to use technology/tools and data to solve problems and innovate.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and a passion for research and analysis.
  • Openness to receiving and providing constructive feedback, and ability to learn quickly and effectively as a result
  • Personal and professional integrity to strictly adhere to tradecraft, restrictions, and necessary discretion while tirelessly seeking to help clients and the team(s) supporting them.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, if required as part of client engagement

  • Compensation may vary based on education, skills, experience, and location.
  • Selected candidate must be able to work from one of the following offices: Tysons, VA (HQ); Washington DC as needed. Client meetings may be required in-person.
  • This is an exempt level role that may require more than 40 hours of work per week.
  • Selected Candidate must be able to work Eastern Standard Hours.

What Would Be Nice To Have

  • Active USG clearance preferred (Secret or above).
  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Cybersecurity-related experience.
  • Foreign language fluency (Arabic, Chinese, Farsi/Persian, Russian, Spanish preferred).
  • Previous experience collecting and analyzing information from the darknet and/or monitoring illicit sites.
  • Previous experience analyzing corporate structures and ownership and business affiliations.
  • Previous intelligence analysis training/experience from US Government or commercial firm or OSINT related certifications.
  • Previous experience overseeing the work of others.
