On-Call Banquet Server/Bartender
Job Summary Hotel Nikko San Francisco is currently looking for an On-Call Banquet Server/Bartender. This person will be responsible for providing Food and Beverage service to guests in all banquet areas. Service includes but is not limited to activities such as serving meals, setting/executing breaks, assisting with problems, and providing information. This position will also be cross trained to be a Banquets Bartender when needed. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Pick up and serve food and beverages in the manner prescribed by hotel standards.
- Provide service throughout different events. Service includes but is not limited to activities such as changing silver, glassware and clearing/cleaning tables.
- Complete assigned side work including but not limited to folding napkins, cleaning and filling salt, pepper and sugar, polishing silver, glassware and other equipment before service.
- Maintain and monitor freshness of products served including, but not limited to butter, milk, and coffee.
- Maintain state and federal health code standards.
- Prepare and arrange work area.
- Ensure all tables and chairs are in good repair and arranged properly for specific function. Inspect all equipment. Report any problems to appropriate personn3el. Follow up to ensure correction of any problems.
- Ensure tables are set to specific standards.
- Break down area at end of function.
- Greet all guests upon arrival. Welcome guest by name when s/he is a repeat customer.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of workstation. Ensure work area meets standards set at completion of work shift including but not limited to replenishing silverware and linen.
- Maintain and store all banquet equipment, food and drinks, properly including, but not limited to china, silverware, glassware, tablecloths and napkins.
- Interact in courteous and professional manner with guests and hotel staff with whom employee comes into contact.
- Attend to guest requests or complaints when possible and appropriate; when inappropriate inform supervisor or appropriate person of request and follow up to ensure it was resolved.
- Ability to handle equipment including, but not limited to china and glassware carefully to avoid breakage or damage.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of work area.
- Assist in seating guests when necessary.
- Transport dirty dishes to dishwasher area when necessary.
- Participate in and attend all departmental and hotel-wide meetings. Required Qualifications
- Two to three years experience in fine dining food service establishment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, or of age specified by State Alcohol Control Laws.
- All candidates must be fluent in verbal and written English.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain state and federal health code standards.
- Ability to understand and comply with safety precautions in the use of chemicals.
- Ability to maintain good relations with staff and guests.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, to make decisions without supervision and to prioritize tasks in order to meet appropriate deadlines.
- Ability to memorize, recollect, and quickly retrieve dates, names, times, and other data.
- Ability to work under pressure and complete assignments on time when confronted with frequent stressful, emergency, critical or unusual situations.
- Ability to converse calmly with irate guests, co-workers, and superiors in sometimes intense emotional situations.
- Ability to add and subtract five digits numbers. Ability to perform mathematical operations with units of measure including, but not limited to dollars and cents.
- Ability to understand and comply with safety precautions in the use of chemicals. Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of French and Russian service and food and wine presentation.
- Knowledge and ability to set up and disassemble linens, tables, china, flat, and glass wares to conform to hotel standards. Work Conditions
- Most tasks are performed as part of a team with a moderate amount of supervision.
- Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
- Work tasks are performed walking, standing, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, and grasping.
- Standing and walking occurs 90-95% of the time. Walking occurs continuously in and between kitchen and banquet or meeting room areas.
- Many work tasks require the ability to lift and carry at most 40 pounds 100% of the time.
- Reaching occurs at, above and below shoulder level. Throughout a working shift.
- Pushing and pulling occur continuously throughout a working shift but is not limited to opening doors.
- Twisting and turning occur continuously throughout all aspects of the job, involving activities such as presenting food and wine.
- Grasping occurs continuously throughout the work shift in all aspects of the job.
- Talking and hearing occurs continuously in the process of communicating with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near, and color vision, and depth perception.
- Many work tasks are performed on carpeted areas, while others are performed on tiled or other hard surfaces.
- Some work tasks require employees to encounter hazardous chemicals. Employees should use precautions such as rubber gloves when necessary.
