Position Overview

The Digital Products team develops and maintains a portfolio of digital solutions to support USAID-funded economic growth, environment, governance, and health programs through the Business Transformation team within the USG Business Unit. It consists of a team of digital-focused product managers, data scientists, spatial analysts, and software developers. Team members have a customer-first mindset and, using software development life cycle best practices, are responsible for gathering requirements on digital product requests, developing project support plans, overseeing data analysis and software development processes, communicating with internal and external clients, and conducting quality control on deliverables. Our team helps our clients understand and implement the broad range of potential solutions for their often-unique problem sets and contexts.

This position will be responsible for engaging with DAI project technical staff and leadership to facilitate the design, implementation, and delivery of digital solutions. The Full Stack Developer will interface directly with project staff and need to be able to clearly understand project technical needs and consider solutions from multiple perspectives while working within a multidisciplinary business unit environment. Requests vary widely and may require assisting a project in database design and setup for reporting, while others may require full development of a custom solution or even a simple WordPress site. The applicant is expected to possess strong problem solving and application architecture skills that directly support operations of DAI field-based projects.

This position may also provide ad hoc technical support to DAI projects on other short-term assignments as opportunities or needs arise.

This is a full-time position that requires authorization to work in the United States. This position requires coming into into the office one day per week.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of web applications based in Django, WordPress, and other technology solutions as dictated by project requirements
  • Engage and interface directly with internal and external clients and teams to help discover and implement project requirements
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical audiences and provide assistance during digital solution inception or design phases.
  • Translate requirements into high-quality, technical deliverables in the form of documentation, technical document review, and/or fully deployed web applications
  • Show care and dedication to building applications with exceptional client and user experience
  • Demonstrate empathy in your consideration of both user, client, and business needs
  • A strong focus on developing maintainable and sustainable solutions
  • Coordinate and collaborate with remote and distributed multidisciplinary teams across the organization and external clients.
  • Maintain quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organization expectations, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade P5: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in full stack software development, computer science, information technology, or related area, and a college degree.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with Python and the Django framework.
  • Experience designing low-mid level complexity relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Experience with Git and working in collaborative development team environment
  • Experience coordinating with subject matter experts to accomplish development goals
  • Understanding of digital product design, development, deployment, and maintenance best practices
  • Experience working with one or more cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Heroku, etc.) and integrating an application with managed services such as RDS, S3, CloudFront, Route53, Lightsail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to flexibly pivot as needed
  • Experience working with and in diverse teams of subject matter experts
  • Familiarity with best practices of data management, privacy, security
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence with empathy and strong interpersonal skills
  • Able and willing to travel to any country where DAI currently operates or may wish to operate barring times when DAI Global Security has deemed travel unsafe.
  • Able and willing to adjust work schedule, if needed, to support teams located in different time zones/countries.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years designing, customizing, and developing WordPress applications
  • Understanding of USAID/USG policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Experience with data management or ETL
  • Experience managing DNS
  • Familiarity with Docker or other container-based deployment methods, deploying containerized applications
  • Experience working in international development
  • Experience in serverless web development
  • Experience working on a diverse, remote team of developers and data scientists
  • Experience with frontend development using JavaScript framework such as Stimulus or Vue
  • Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and the implications of working with data in those arenas.
  • Familiarity with security auditing (Nessus, Mozilla Observatory, or similar), proactive security scanning, and threat mitigation
  • Strong business acumen
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate information clearly and tailor communication style to diverse audiences
  • Professional working proficiency in a second language (Spanish, French, Russian, or Arabic preferred). Experience living and working outside the United States.

Compensation & Benefits:

For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $87,931 to $112,171. Salary for part-time employees will be prorated based on actual hours worked. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Eligible U.S. based employees will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability coverage. Detailed information will be provided at the time a formal offer is extended.

For employees working outside of the United States, compensation and benefits will vary based on location.
